Make your Wi-Fi QR code

Raw payload (what goes in the code)

Download SVG

Runs in your browser; nothing you type is uploaded. It makes a static code, so it never expires. Why static codes don't expire.

Raw payload

WIFI:T:WPA;S:CafeGuest;P:coffee-and-cake;;
  1. WIFI: Tells the scanner this is a Wi-Fi network
  2. T:WPA; Security type. WPA covers WPA2 and WPA3. Use WEP for old routers or nopass for open networks
  3. S:CafeGuest; The network name (SSID), exactly as the router broadcasts it
  4. P:coffee-and-cake; The password
  5. ; A final empty field closes the record
How a Wi-Fi payload is put together. Scanners read the prefix, then each field in turn.

A real Wi-Fi code. Scan it with your phone.

When to use it

Cafés, guest rooms, offices, events, your own kitchen. Anywhere you are tired of spelling out a password.

How it behaves on phones

iPhone (iOS 11 and later): the Camera app shows a “Join network” banner. Since iOS 18 the Passwords app can also generate this code for any network you have saved.

Android: the camera or Google Lens offers to connect. Some older Android scanners show the raw text instead; the user can copy the password from it.

Common mistake

Using a generic “Wi-Fi” QR code from a generator that only encodes https:// links. Those open a web page with the password on it, which needs the very internet connection the person does not yet have.

Special characters

Semicolon, comma, colon, backslash and double quote inside the SSID or password must be escaped with a backslash: P:pass\;word;. Most generators, including QR Studio and the payload builder, do this for you.

Level M is fine; a Wi-Fi code lives indoors and is scanned up close. A 4 cm (1.6 in) code on a table tent or a 6 cm (2.5 in) code on the wall behind the counter both work. Add the network name in plain text next to the code so people know which network they just joined.

Try it yourself

Enter your network details, see the raw string, and download a scannable SVG.

Frequently asked questions

▸The code scans but the phone does not join.

Usually the security type is wrong (a WPA3-only network with T:WPA on some Android versions), or the SSID has a trailing space. Check both against the router.

▸Can I hide the password?

No. Anyone who scans the code can read the payload with a decoder. Treat a Wi-Fi code as printing the password on the wall in small letters.

▸Can the code work for a hidden network?

Add H:true; before the closing semicolon.

Want your logo, colors, or a code you can edit later?

QR Studio for iPhone makes a Wi-Fi QR code from the same fields, then adds your logo and colors. Static codes are free with no watermark; dynamic codes you can edit after printing are there when you need them.
